Playa del ReyPlaya del Rey is an oceanfront, bedroom community just south of and with convenient access to Marina del Rey. To the south, Los Angeles International Airport and its ancillary services provide a local employment base. Playa del Rey is adjacent to the masterplanned community of Playa Vista, the former Hughes Aircraft site, where a state-of-the-art sound production facility will soon be built. Also planned for this site are office and industrial buildings, stores, hotels, housing, and open space including the Ballona Creek Wetlands Preserve. Shopping on a grand scale is available at Fox Hills Mall in nearby Culver City. Daniel Freeman Marina Hospital is located in the adjacent community of Marina del Rey. Playa del Rey is an upper middle class community known for its fabulous ocean views – the Santa Monica Bay as far north as Malibu, and in some areas, as far south as Palos Verdes. The community is tucked out of the way, with no through streets, yet Manchester Avenue, Jefferson Blvd, and Lincoln Blvd offer residents convenient access to freeway 405. Area attractions include the Del Rey Lagoon and Park, which overlooks miles of clean, uncrowded beaches. To the north, Marina del Rey offers water sports and upscale restaurants with a view of the Marina. To the west, in the middle class bedroom community of Westchester are the Westchester Recreation Center, and the Westchester Golf Course. Loyola Marymount University is only a few minutes away.
