Beverly HillsBeverly Hills is a world renowned preserve of the rich and famous, the elite and status conscious. It is the home of movie stars, sports celebrities, and corporate moguls. Some of the most expensive homes in the Los Angeles area are tucked into the forested nooks or perched on view sites in the Santa Monica Mountains that flank the community to the north. Also world famous is the community’s large, vibrant central business district, including the chic, pricey shops on Rodeo Drive. In 1914, Beverly Hills was incorporated as a city with its own government, including a highly regarded school district, police and fire departments known for their responsiveness, and well kept library, parks, and recreation centers. Greystone Park, with sweeping views of Los Angeles, and the terraced, six-acre Virginia Robinson Gardens are located in Beverly Hills. The city is bordered on the north by the mountains; and on the south and east by the more affordable communities of Century City, Cheviot Hills; and West Hollywood (a favorite haunt of celebrities). To the west is the academic community of Westwood and the prestigious bedroom community of Bel Air. The Museum of Tolerance is located in Bel Air, and the Los Angeles Country Club is adjacent to the western boundary of the city. Nearby are the UCLA Campus, the UCLA/Armand Hammer Museum of Art and Cultural Center, the UCLA Medical Center, and Cedars Sinai Medical Center. Just to the north of Beverly Hills, easily accessible yet surrounded by the Santa Monica Mountains, is the Franklin Canyon Recreation Area, with a lake, picnic facilities, and nature classes. To the east are the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the community of West Hollywood, where celebrities are often seen. Just south of Beverly Hills is the Century City Shopping Center, Twentieth Century Fox Studio, Hillcrest Country Club, and the Cheviot Hills Park and Recreation Center.
